As one of Perth’s leading dentists, we have helped countless patients to regain their confidence with dental implants. At Ageless Smiles Dental Centre, we offer exceptional dental implant placement and restorative dentistry to get you back that winning grin.

In addition to boosting your self-esteem and making your smile more aesthetically pleasing, dental implants serve to restore your teeth’s functionality, counteract bone loss and degeneration, and stop adjacent teeth from moving.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are prosthetics or false teeth that are inserted into your jawbone to help restore the appearance of your teeth and smile, as well as your ability to chew. They are a near-permanent restorative treatment to replace missing teeth.

Dental implants replace the entire structure of the tooth, so they look and function just like natural teeth. Single tooth implants consist of three different components: a fixture, an abutment, and a crown.

  • Fixture: A small titanium screw (or post) that is inserted into the jawbone. This acts as the root of the new tooth. The fixture is used as the anchor for the abutment and implant crown.
  • Abutment: The connector which joins the fixture to the crown.
  • Crown: The visible artificial tooth that attaches to the abutment. Crowns are usually made from ceramic material (e.g., porcelain or zirconium), but can also be made from acrylic.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Dental Implants?

Before any dental implant procedure takes place, one of our expert implant dentists will have a consultation with you to examine your mouth. If you meet the following criteria, you are a prime candidate for dental implants:

  • You have one or more missing teeth
  • Your teeth are starting to decay or are damaged
  • You don’t have significant jawbone loss
  • Your overall dental health is good

What Are the Different Types of Dental Implants?

There are a few different types of dental implants that could be suitable for your restorative treatment. Your choice will often depend on how many teeth you need to replace:

  • Single tooth implant: If you only have one damaged or missing tooth that you want to replace, our dentists will place a single implant. This is a very straightforward procedure, but your dentist will develop a personalised treatment plan and discuss it with you in detail.
  • Multiple tooth implants: If you have more than one missing tooth, a dentist will place multiple (but separate) dental implants. These implants are common for patients with adjacent missing teeth, where two fixtures support an implant bridge to replace three or four missing teeth in a row.
  • Full arch implants: All-on-4 dental implants are the most commonly used treatment to replace the entire top or bottom arch. This dental implant treatment is an alternative restorative solution to removable dentures. Four implants are placed into the jawbone to support a full arch of teeth (an implant bridge). When necessary, for instance, if you have a very strong bite, your dentist will recommend up to six implants to support your replacement teeth. These are known as All-on-6 dental implants.

Are There Any
Side Effects to Getting Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a safe and reliable way to replace missing teeth. Titanium implants are biocompatible and are a viable long-term treatment option. The dentists at Ageless Smiles Dental Centre are highly trained in dental implant placement, and our surgical suites are purpose designed for restorative dentistry. We’ll make sure you have all the information you need, whilst also always providing gentle, supportive dental care.

There are a few minor side effects that may arise post-procedure:

  • As with any surgery, you may experience slight discomfort following the placement of dental implants. This discomfort could include headaches, jaw, tooth, and gum pain.
  • Patients may experience minor bleeding in and around the implant site after implant placement.
  • It is common for patients to experience gum swelling around the implant site following the procedure.

These symptoms often only last for 7 to 10 days. Remember that everyone handles pain and heals in their own way. If you’re worried about how much pain you are in, or if you’re having any problems, call our dentists for help and advice.

Please note that any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek an opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Choose Ageless Smiles Dental Centre for Your Dental Implant Procedure in Perth

Ageless Smiles Dental Centre is here to help you achieve the smile of your dreams! When choosing us for your dental implants, you will go through a 6-step process:

1. Consultation: Before any treatment takes place, you will have an in-depth consultation with one of our highly trained, experienced, and friendly dental professionals. We will examine your dental situation, overall oral health, and your goals for your smile. We’ll then talk to you about whether you’re a candidate for implants and the next steps.

2. Diagnostics: Using our latest CBCT digital X-ray machine, an HD 3D scan will be taken of your mouth and jaw to assess your bone condition and to plan the placement of the implant fixture. Using every tool available, including HD digital scans of your teeth and clinical photos, your dentist will develop a dental treatment plan specifically tailored to you and your needs. We’ll also go through this treatment plan with you in detail.

3. Implant Placement: Before the placement of a dental implant, any unwanted decayed or damaged teeth will be removed. In most cases, this will be followed by the immediate placement of the titanium fixture. If necessary, bone grafting will also take place before the fixture is placed. Next, we’ll take more impressions of your mouth to design your visible teeth (crowns). Finally, we’ll fit a temporary denture or crown over the implant fixtures to allow your implant(s) time to osseointegrate (fuse) with your jawbone. 4. Abutment Placement: The inserted implant will take around three months to heal. After that, the implant fixture is exposed by creating a small incision in the gum, and the abutment component is attached. 5. Crown Placement: The last stage of the dental implant placement is when a carefully crafted, colour-matched dental crown is permanently secured to the implant abutment. And you’re ready to go! 6. Implant Care: Dental implant care is an important part of the treatment. Our dentists recommend that you maintain good oral hygiene and schedule regular professional teeth cleaning appointments with us. With the correct care, dental implants can last for 20 years, so help us to help you maintain your implants for as long as possible.
