Dental Crowns Belmont

A dental crown is a full coverage restoration used to protect the remaining tooth structure, which has become too damaged to be treated with a traditional filling.

At Ageless Smiles Dental Centre, all our dental crowns are custom-crafted using the highest quality materials to ensure you receive a beautiful and long-lasting crown.

Dental Crown Process in Belmont

A dental crown requires two visits for the treatment to be provided.

  1. It begins with removing any decayed or damaged tooth structure and preparing the remaining healthy natural tooth structure.
  2. With our 3-D digital scanner, we have left the old sticky dental impression materials behind. Instead, we take a high-definition scan of the teeth to enable our trained lab technicians to custom-create the required crown. Dental crowns are frequently fabricated in porcelain and colour-matched with the shade of your natural tooth. Sometimes, a gold crown may be desired or recommended in teeth positioned towards the back of the mouth.
  3. A temporary crown is created and placed on the tooth for protection while the crown is being custom-created.
  4. After approximately two weeks, the temporary crown is removed during the second appointment, and your newly fabricated crown is permanently cemented into place.

Caring for Your Restoration: What You Need to Know

Taking good care of your dental crown or bridge is the best way to keep it looking and feeling its best for many years. Here are some things you can do to maintain your new restoration once your treatment is complete:

Practise Good Oral Hygiene

To keep plaque from building up on your restoration or along your gumline, it’s best to brush your teeth two times each day with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

Use Special Cleaning Tools

It’s a good idea to use dental floss threaders or interdental brushes to clean around your crown or bridge. This can help you avoid tooth decay on your natural teeth.

Avoid Biting Hard Objects

After we place your crown or bridge, you’ll want to keep it from cracking or breaking. Make sure you don’t bite down on ice, fingernails, pencils or hard and sticky foods.

Arrange Regular Check-Ups

We recommend a routine exam and clean every six months so we can assess your overall oral health and address any concerns, including tooth decay or gum disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

The biggest difference between a bridge and a partial denture is the life span, convenience, comfort, ease of care, and improved oral health, which is possible with a bridge. Removable partial dentures can sometimes feel uncomfortable when eating, are more difficult to care for, and may cause jaw and gum health problems over time.

With proper daily brushing and flossing and regular examinations by your dentist, your dental bridge will last for many years to come.

Dental Bridges in Belmont and Beyond

man and woman smilingIf you have lost one or more teeth, you may be a candidate for a dental bridge. A well-crafted porcelain dental bridge restores your smile's function and appearance.

As the name suggests, this treatment “bridges” a gap in the mouth left vacant due to tooth loss as it is permanently fixed into place. A dental bridge is an alternative to implants or partial dentures.

Benefits of a Dental Bridge

  • Replaces missing teeth without the need for surgical procedures
  • Can assist with speech and improve function
  • Prevents bone loss, sometimes known as resorption
  • Prevents drifting and misalignment of teeth
  • Provides a long-term dental solution
  • Feels comfortable and doesn’t move around like a partial denture

Dental Bridge Process in Belmont

A dental bridge typically requires two visits for the treatment.

  1. It begins with preparing the teeth on both sides of the gap, anchoring the bridge.
  2. With our state-of-the-art, 3-D digital scanner, a high-definition scan enables our trained lab technicians to custom-create the required dental bridge. Dental bridges are frequently fabricated in porcelain and colour-matched with the shade of your natural teeth.
  3. A temporary bridge is created and placed on the prepared teeth for protection while the dental bridge is custom-created.
  4. After approximately two weeks, the temporary bridge is removed during the second appointment, and your newly fabricated bridge is permanently bonded into place.
